Activities and Programs

A majority of Americans believe that scientists are best qualified to explain the impacts of scientific research on society. With science changing everything from the way we fight disease to how energy is produced, it's important for the public to stay informed and up-to-date.

The goal of outreach is simple—to inform people about research in ways they can understand. Scientists and engineers know their research and its benefits better than anyone else, so their role in explaining it is very important. There are numerous avenues through which to do so.

These activities are sample outreach presentations about nanotechnology and materials science that can be used in a variety of settings. They are designed to take around 5 minutes and can be appropriate for audiences of almost any age, depending on the level of detail presented.
