One way that we can learn about the differences in materials is by studying the sound that they make when dropped on a hard surface (their acoustic properties.) Below are two rods of the nickel-titanium alloy, Nitinol, at different temperatures. Click on each rod to play a movie and listen to the sound the rod makes when dropped on a rock.

Click on Rod A to test it.

Click on Rod B to test it.

Do they both sound the same? YES or NO
